A crucial part of any Big Power L-Series build is the drivetrain—specifically, the transmission. Unfortunately, the factory 5-speed units from the Z-chassis and S-chassis cannot reliably handle high torque levels.

This adapter allows you to bolt up the Nissan FS5R30A “monster” transmission—found in the Z32 300ZX (’90–’96 NA & TT) and Z31 (’87–’89 Turbo)—to your L20/L24/L28 engine. The FS5R30A is also found in certain RWD Pathfinders and D21 pickups.

There are other transmission-swap options available and many of them work well; however, they can be costly, lack a speedometer output, add significant weight, require cutting the factory transmission mounts, use short gearing, or require additional parts and fabrication.

Our adapter is CNC-machined from 6061 aluminum, bead-blasted, and anodized to maintain a clean, durable finish. All necessary mounting hardware is included.

Benefits of the Z32 5-speed swap:

  • Handles 400–600 ft-lb of torque with ease

  • Re-use your existing L-Series clutch assembly

  • Gearing matches the L-Series powerband and improves highway cruising

  • Features electronic Speedometer Output easily converted to mechanical with part #3270233g19

  • No cutting of the transmission tunnel mounts for 240z. 280-280zx can be shortened  (custom transmission mounts required)


  • Re-use your current L-Series clutch assembly
  • Gearing is more suited for L-Series power band and highway.
  • Speedometer input electrical and there is a mechanical speedo drive too!
  • No cutting transmission tunnel mounts (however you will require custom mounts)


This is not a complete solution, rather a crucial piece of the bigger kit we will also be adding to it. Please view the links below some of the work.Custom driveshaft needs to be made, Bell housing needs to be removed , milled to accommodate spacer thickness and starter notch. Shifter rod needs to be shortened (z32 modeland s. A custom transmission mount or an APEX transmount will work!
